Rip Curl launches the Search GPS3 watch and iOS app

Since Rip Curl launched the first Search GPS Surf and Tide Watch in 2014, Rip Curl has helped surfers track 25 million waves across 2,400 beaches in 76 countries.

Now, the Search GPS3 offers a lighter, stronger and smarter surf watch designed for the next generation of performance and connectivity.

Rip Curl’s new Search GPS3 watch officially launched in April 2025. Paired with the all-new Search GPS iOS app, the GPS3 allows surfers to plan, track, relive, compare and share every session.

The new Search GPS3 is “packed with next-level surf and tide features,” says Michael Choma, Senior Designer of Product, Experience & Innovation at Rip Curl. “Now, with the Search GPS app available on Apple Watch, even more surfers can experience this groundbreaking technology and become part of a global surfing community.”

Built for the break and beyond

The Search GPS3 was designed with both surf-specific metrics and everyday fitness in mind. New features include paddle count, wave speed, wave distance, step count, calorie tracking and a daily activity mode.

Integrated data from Surfline helps users plan their surf windows and relive key sessions with trace maps and camera rewind footage.

A high-resolution colour display enhances visibility in all conditions, making the GPS3 a reliable companion in and out of the water.

A global community, growing fast

Rip Curl’s approach to the new GPS3 is more than performance. Users can now create custom leagues with friends, earn achievement badges, share session highlights to social media and compete for top rankings via the new Boss of the Break feature – a leaderboard showcasing activity at local surf spots.

Since the first release, Rip Curl has sold more than 80,000 Search GPS watches, with over 53,000 users logging their sessions through earlier versions of the app. With an estimated 1.7 million Apple Watch users now able to access the platform, the global surf community continues to expand.
